Mudjacking or slabjacking is the process of lifting concrete slabs by pumping a grout mixture under concrete. A series of strategic holes are drilled in the slab (1 and 9/16″ diameter hole) to allow proper placement of the grout under the slab.

Suitable applications for mudjacking include driveways, walkways, garage pads, basement floors etc.

Q. My driveway has sunk, can you raise it?

Generally, the answer is yes, but we need to make an inspection to determine if the job is possible. To aid homeowners, here are some basic guidelines you can follow:

Is the concrete is good condition and how bad had the concrete cracked.

If your concrete is in reasonable condition with minimal cracking, you will be a good candidate for Slabjacking. Depending on the size of the job, Slabjacking is around 10% to 20% of the cost of removing and re pouring new concrete.

The concern for slabjacking is when you have lots of cracks that look like a spider’s web. The more cracks in the concrete, the harder it is to raise the slab evenly. It is usually better to save your money and invest in a new concrete slab. The exception is basement floors.

Q. Will my driveway sink again?

Generally, once the driveway has been lifted, it will take many years for it to sink again if it sinks at all. The key to success is making sure you place as much product as possible under the concrete. The more product you can place, the longer lasting the results will be.

But to fully answer this question, you will need to understand a bit of soil mechanics. If you have unstable ground or a high water table, you will get ground movement. No matter what we pump under the slab in terms of a grout mixture, if the base settles, so will your slab. Slabjacking cannot fix or compensate for unstable soil. Our answer to this solution is to offer a 3 year warranty to our customers, so that if the concrete slab should settle again, we will come and raise it again. In comparison, if you were to have a new concrete slab installed, most concrete companies will only offer a 1 year warranty. Should their slab sink, they will call a mudjacker to raise it rather than replace it.
